Don't Sweat it!!!

Ok so I will admit it when it gets cold and my alarm is going off I always lay in my cozy, warm bed debating about wearing a warm sweatshirt or getting dressed in warm layers. I know that a sweatshirt is super easy and usually thought to be slouchy. Well good news!!! Sweatshirts can now be super chic when worn correctly!!!

Wrong way to wear a sweatshirt:
* Don't wear your sweatshirt too baggy (unless it is a sweatshirt dress)
*Do not ever pair your sweatshirt with sweat pants unless you are in your bed and it is 40 degrees. You will look super frumpy and this look is always featured on What not to Wear. Plus 9 chances out of 10 you will see everyone as soon as you walk out of the house so save yourself from inevitable embarrassment.
*Do not wear your sweatshirt to formal occasions (it isn't that chic of a style)

Right way to wear a sweatshirt:
*Do wear a cute fitted sweatshirt with feminine details like lace, bows, sequins etc on them.
*Do remain balanced by wearing a sweatshirt with skinny jeans, boots, skirts, leggings...
* Do make sure to wear at least a bra underneath (trust me I do know people who walk out of the house and skip this step... this will make you look frumpy)
* Do accessorize your sweatshirt. A sweatshirt in my opinion is sporty so balance that out with something chic.
*For sure try a sweatshirt dress on with cute tights and boots don't forget to top off with a necklace and you will look like a winner!!!

TADA those are my go to rules for how I can get away with stepping out of the house with a sweatshirt on. I also like to wear a polished ponytail as opposed to a messy bun. I try to make my look intentional rather than lazy and poof it works every time!!!

Keep your eyes safe!

This fall and winter make sure to keep one of your most important features safe. Eyes cannot easily be replaced and they age naturally but you can protect them everyday by easily taking one step. Make sure to wear a pair of sunglasses every time you step outside in the light. Luckily for all of us there are hundreds of thousands of styles. Every designer makes a signature pair.

Sunglasses keep our eyes shielded from the sun rays from literally cooking the eyes. Fun fact your eye is made of the same protein as that in an egg and can be cooked as easily as an egg. That being said let that be a caution to you when you walk out of the house on a sunny day without some form of protection.

I also love sunglasses for the chic addition to every look. Sunglasses are perfect for giving yourself an amount of protection from people who might be trying to catch a glimpse into your who you are. Many celebs have found that a pair of "sunnies" can be the perfect defense against bright flashes and paparazzi.

Right now my favorite style is the Ray Ban Wayfarer style. It is a nice and traditional pair that seems to work on everyone as well on every frame. This style is also frequently copied by like everyone.

A new and trendy style is the cat eye style. This retro style is gaining steam and popularity. Thankfully so because it is replacing the massive bug-eyed styles of a few seasons ago. The cat eye style has been long awaiting its return into the public eye (no pun intended).

So this fall and winter when you are getting ready and you work so hard to look great bye putting on your makeup, clothing, and accessories make sure to not forget something you will always be need for your beauty.

Last week I heard bells!!

Ok so the reason for my 2 week absence was due to an over the top assignment that was due in my draping class. In April we, my senior class, will have a fashion show. At the end of the show all of us seniors will be showing either a wedding dress or an evening gown. I spent about 80 hours and $400 on mine and I am super proud of it. My dress included the self layer (top outer layer), interlining (for stability I used organza), a boning layer on cotton sateen, and the lining layer (I used Bemberg rayon). On the skirt I used the same layers minus the boning layer I switched it with a tulle and netting petticoat.

My dress is mostly sustainable due to  my using hemp/ silk charmeuse I purchased from dharmatrading.com. The only part not sustainable is the tulle and netting.

My inspiration for this dress was fall colors as well as using historic surface designs from 13th century England. I really hope you enjoy seeing my work

Friday Color Combo of the Week!!!!

This week after a long absense due to having to make a wedding dress in 2 weeks for class... Let me tell you it is no easy feat to spend 80 hours on one dress. This week I am going to have to go with plum and copper. They are just such warm fall colors!!!

Metallics!!!

Barney from How I Met Your Mother is to spot on when he lists out the 24 reasons why women are like fish on his blog. These are my more favorite reasons:

Both travel in protective groups
Small bladders
The deeper you go, the scarier they get
Their weight largely determines their value
Scales are important to each of them
Both attracted to shiny objects
The last one is the one I am most interested in for today!!! I happen to love shiny objects and anything metallic. (except music that is heavy metal) I will most often gravitate in a store to any garment with metallic threads. The shinier the better.

As I always say balance is key and this is just as true as with metallics. I think everyone can incorporate something metallic into their outfit even if it is just as small as a chunky gold watch or the glimmer of a dangling necklace. Those are just small accessories and I am really more interested in an awesome gold skirt or a silver sequined cardigan. Metallic garments are best paired with an article of clothing that can kind of  absorb some of the shine. I particularily love wearing my gold brocade jacket with a rich colored, think cranberry, cowl neck blouse and some dark denim trousers.

Metallic are super hot this season on the runways and well everywhere. To transition a metallic flashy object to everyday wear I have found that what you pair with the garment is more important than the metallic piece. It is very hard, but very important to visualize the outfit before getting dressed. I often will lay in bed for about 10 mins before getting out of bed just visualizing what I will be wearing that day. When I plan to wear a metallic skirt I will plan to pair it with matte tights and a chunky sweater that will offset the shine.

Metallics are perfect to get attention and allow your shining personality to shine. Also when I wear shiny, metallic I just can't help but smile and be happy which is just one more perk of this fabric. So lets all be a little like fish and allow ourselves to be attracted to metallic this winter instead of just plain black. And for an added bonus metallics usually denote luxury and richness.
